La Petite Café Opens at Alliance Française de Brunei
The headquarters of Alliance Française de Brunei has a new addition to its elegant premises: a French-themed café to cater to members and the public alike.
A collaboration between Alliance Française and the Brunei Detox Bar to help promote French culture, La Petite Café celebrated its opening on Saturday, 4th February, with a $5 coffee-and-cake promotion for the public. The café features an array of French-themed desserts to western favourites, and an offering of savoury treats such as quiches, sandwiches and soups. The uniqueness of the café is helped by its relationship with Alliance Française – it has a warm French ambiance accentuated by the delicious food, the stylish interior, the French jazz music played from a live French radio station and classic French movie screenings projected on the wall.
In a conversation with director of Alliance Française, Yann Carpentier and owner of La Petite Café, Anne Masri, both expressed hopes that the future will see the café expanding to the first floor of the premises, which houses a library of French books available for the public to read and for members to rent.
At a membership rate of $50 a year, Alliance Française members can also enjoy a 5% discount off the pastries and cakes available at La Petite Café, along with the usually benefits such as renting books, films, music CDs, discounted admission fees to cultural programs and events, and more.
This will hopefully not be the last unique offering that will open at the Alliance Française de Brunei quarters: there is a space available for rent for any interested entrepreneurs with businesses relevant to the French culture.
