October has come and this is the month for the history books. The 50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations are on the way – a nationwide celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah and his 50th year as ruler of Brunei.
There will be many events held in conjunction and in celebration of this historical occasion throughout the month of October.
The Royal Parade, Audience Ceremony and Royal Procession Surrounding Bandar Seri Begawan
14 Muharram 1439 / 5 October 2017
A once-in-a-lifetime event – where the capital city will be graced by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei in a Royal Parade and Procession along Bandar Seri Begawan, together with other members of the royal family. This is a chance for the public to catch a glimpse of the grandeur of Brunei’s royal customs and etiquettes or adat istiadat that mirrors Brunei’s rich culture and traditions.

The Royal Banquet
15 Muharram 1439 / 6 October 2017
His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei along with members of the royal family will host a Royal Banquet dinner at the Istana Nurul Iman to commemorate the Golden Jubilee, and will be attended by invited guests and senior officials.
Doa Selamat and the Closing of the Gendang Jaga-Jaga Ceremony

As part of the Royal Customs, the Golden Jubilee Celebrations began with the Opening of the Gendang Jaga-Jaga Ceremony on 3 October 2017 at the Lapau Building in Bandar Seri Begawan, which marks the beginning of the ‘Musim Istiadat Diraja’, and ends on this day, when the Prayer of Thanks has been recited. The ceremony will be held at the Istana Nurul Iman.
The Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony

This Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony will be held at the Istana Nurul Iman in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee.
The Opening Ceremony of the Sungai Kebun Bridge, Procession of Decorated Float and Fireworks Display
23 Muharram 1439 / 14 October 2017
A grand spectacle that will have locals and visitors alike flocking to the capital to witness the sky come alive with fireworks and the Brunei River light up from a procession of river floats. This is the grand opening of the Sungai Kebun Bridge – Brunei’s first cable bridge and its newest landmark.
The Tahlil Ceremony
27 Muharram 2439 / 18 October 2017
His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei along with members of the royal family, senior officials and invited guests, will visit the Royal Mausoleum to read prayers and pay respects to His Majesty’s late parents: Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman.
The Opening Ceremony of the Eco-Corridor and Mass Junjung Kasih and Thanksgiving Ceremony
All residents of Brunei will be invited to this event, which will be held at the Eco-Corridor, a one-minute walk from the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
