The Brunei December Festival is just a month away and it’s already shaping up to be a fun-filled end of year holiday for locals and tourists. With 40 festivals lined up across all four districts, this is definitely the year to consider a staycation.
Ongoing preparations for the festival continue with the launching of Brunei Events: its official website and mobile application. The launch was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, at an event held at the Tourist Information Center at the Royal Wharf (Dermaga Diraja) in the city center on 1 November 2017.
Brunei Events (www.brunei.events) is website and mobile application that will be used as a platform to promote tourism services for the public to keep up-to-date with the latest events in Brunei. Managed exclusively by Mixmediaworx, the website was developed in collaboration with Progresif and endorsed by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, and will be working closely with the Brunei Tourism Board in promoting events and tourism products to contribute toward efforts in improving tourism services and increasing tourism activities within the sultanate.
While the website greatly benefits the organization of the Brunei December Festival, it will also be used to promote events in the nation all year round.
“As a result of the Press Conference on the Brunei December Festival held in August, more event organizers have come forward including strong support from Foreign Missions in Brunei,” Yang Berhormat Dato Awang Haji Ali said in his opening remarks. “We have now compiled over 40 exciting events and activities lined up to take place across all four districts throughout the month of December, ranging from arts & culture, culinary, performing arts as well as sports & recreation.”
“Therefore, with the creation of the Brunei Events website not only is it an extension of our promotional efforts for the Brunei December Festival, it also provides a platform for both locals as well as foreign visitors to access information on the current and future happenings in Brunei Darussalam all year round.”
During the event, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism also promoted the ‘Festival Insider Guide’: a booklet containing detailed information on the events listed under the Brunei December Festival.
The Brunei December Festival marks the first ever month-long festival initiated by the Brunei Tourism Board in collaboration with different ministries, public sectors and relevant stakeholders, with the objective of increasing the number of tourist arrivals in Brunei by developing an annual calendar of events that will attract both local and international visitors. This will also spur local residents to travel and spend within the country, and in doing so increase domestic tourism, help the domestic economy and increase business opportunities for SMEs.
“By holding yearly festivals such as this, we want to make Brunei an attractive destination for locals and tourists to spend their holidays and enjoy; as well as make a positive impact on the economy which enables us to move closer to the diversification goal of Wawasan 2035 of His Majesty’s Government,” the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism said in his speech.
“I am pleased to note that the festival has received tremendous support from the various government agencies, Foreign Missions in Brunei, strategic partners and event organizers. I also wish to applaud volunteers who have signed up to provide support to ensure smooth running of logistics and operations. Once again, I would like to thank everyone for all their contribution and continuous support given by the public.”
At the event, Yang Berhormat Dato Awang Haji Ali also visited booths from participating organizers of the Brunei December Festival.
Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, foreign dignitaries, State Legislative Council members, members of the Brunei Tourism Board, travel agents, hoteliers, strategic partners and event organizers.
