If you saw a really tall crane these past few months at the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas with a bunch of people running around below it, you have been privy to the behind the scenes set up of a very special project. Brunei is set to make waves with the launching of the BN40 Gigapixel Photo of Brunei Darussalam, utilising the technology of gigapixel photography. The resulting panoramas hold immense detail aat over one billion pixels and can feel like you are stepping into the image itself.
BN40 Gigapixel is the brainchild of a luxury watchmaker, Keeran Janin, who says it’s something he’s always wanted to do since learning about the technology. “I wanted to make sure that this was at zero cost to the government and it’s a gift to the people”, he explained adding that with the timing of the nation’s 40th year of independence in February 2024, the photo will serve as a kind of time capsule for the current and future generations with vignettes of Bruneian life and all communities. The documentary on the making of the BN40 Gigapixel Photo will air on selected platforms.
