The inaugural Brunei vs Singapore Friendly Race set the stage for a captivating display of sailing prowess and camaraderie. Sailboats, competing across various classes, navigated through two exhilarating races, each moment charged with the spirit of competition and collaboration. This landmark event, organised in partnership between Royal Brunei Yacht Club and Metazone Singapore, marks a significant milestone in the development of sailing in Brunei.
Renowned for its commitment to promoting sailing in Southeast Asia, Metazone has played a pivotal role in supporting the growth of the sports in Brunei. Led by founder Jevan Tan, the organisation has been instrumental in providing expertise, resources, and guidance to elevate the sailing experience in Brunei. Through strategic collaboration with local organisations, Metazone is dedicated to fostering a vibrant sailing community and nurturing the talents of aspiring sailors. Against the backdrop of Serasa Bay, participants, supporters and distinguished guests gathered to witness the culmination of months of preparation and anticipation. Featuring different boat classes, it presented a thrilling spectacle of skill and strategy on the water. Utilising the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system, final times were calculated to determine the deserving winners, with a prize presentation at the end for the victorious Brunei team. Their remarkable performance underscored the dedication and talent within the Bruneian sailing community, setting a high standard for future competitions.
Sailing Secretary of Royal Brunei Yacht Club, Alan Tan, expressed optimism for the continued growth and development of sailing in Brunei. The success of the Inaugural Brunei vs Singapore Friendly Race would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Metazone and esteemed supporters including Her Excellency Caryn McClelland, the United States of America Ambassador to Brunei, Her Excellency Ambra Dickie, the Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei, and the Royal Brunei Yacht Club. Their dedication has laid the foundation for future sailing events and initiatives in Brunei and beyond.
