DAPOER SUMATRA, BRUNEI
Growing from their original single menu of pempek lenjer, the owners of Dapoer Sumatra found a growing fan base for food from the home of the Padang cuisine which is famous for its use of coconut milk and spicy chilli. Essential Sumatran dishes such as Sate Padang, Soto Padang, Nasi Padang, Pindang Patin, dominate the rotating menu with more dishes from across the Indonesian archipelago being included so customers will never get bored trying a different dish every day!
Go for the packed Nasi Rendang and Nasi Padang Belado, but beware, the heat packs a punch. Their rendang meat is cooked at a low temperature for approximately eight hours for tender meat and the spices are absorbed until the final chew. It’s typically black in colour — the flavours are incredibly intense and the spice level may knock your socks off. If you’re adventurous, the Gulai Kikil or Kulit Sapi is actually deliciously soft and fatty, with a great coating of creating curry. They’re on a tapau basis only and quickly sell out pre-orders.

NANA DESSERT CAFE, SABAH
Stop into NANA Dessert Cafe at Jesselton Quay @ Gallery Shoppes to refuel and refresh thanks to the cozy, aesthetic ambience. Their famed Bingsu is a real treat to have on a hot day, especially the Injeolmi Pat Bingsu, full of yummy red bean paste which earns our Asian seal of approval for being not too sweet!
Want some serious sugar? Their Macarons and bakes also come highly recommended. Of course, caffeine is the beverage of choice here. Try the unusual Pandan Coconut Latte that reminds us of an Onde-Onde dessert, or the highly rated Matcha Latte that has the good earthiness of matcha balanced against sweet steamed milk. New on their menu are filling bagels and mains like pastas for whatever your stomach craves.
