The highly anticipated month-long What About Kuching festival returned with a focus that saw more satellite festivals cropping upin further Sarawak locations for the first time. Since its inaugural in 2017, the What About Kuching (WAK) Festival Movement has become an annual celebration inherent in the community. Coming to its sixth edition in 2024, the WAK team with the encouragement of its main sponsor, the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, engaged the Sibu and Miri City Councils with the idea to stage WAK Satellite Festivals at these two major cities.
Press from the WAK community that these satellite festivals are to become starting points of feature calendar events in these respective cities for years to come, and that “it is hoped that the creatives from the many communities will come forth to embrace both the WAK Sibu and WAK Miri Satellite Festivals as their very own”. Judging by the huge response that both cities received from high attendance numbers and vibrant crowd atmosphere, these events are definitely one to mark on the calendar for 2025!
