Relax and Recover with Malaysia Healthcare

by Intan Abu Daniel

Shopping isn’t the only reason why people go to Malaysia. With successful efforts from the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) – better known as Malaysia Healthcare – Malaysia has seen a booming medical tourism industry in their country, and has received numerous awards and recognitions. Malaysia was named “Medical Travel Destination of the Year” at the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ) Medical Travel Awards in 2015 and 2016, and “Best Country in the World for Healthcare” by International Living’s Annual Global Retirement Index from 2015 to 2017.

Why Malaysia? For a start, hospitals in Malaysia offer a wide range of niche medical specialties, they are fully equipped with the latest in state-of-the-art medical facilities, they are served by highly-qualified medical practitioners, and they offer affordable and attractive rates without compromising the quality of the treatments.

Ms Yazmin Azman, Head of Marketing of MHTC, explained: “Malaysia Healthcare has all the right qualities for achieving greater heights in international healthcare travel: excellent quality in healthcare services, accessibility and affordability. Matched with strong government backing and commitment from the private healthcare sector, Malaysia has everything it takes to achieve our ambition of being the leading global healthcare destination. We will press on in our efforts to sustain Malaysia as a global force to be reckoned with.”

With the purpose to educate Bruneians about Malaysia Healthcare’s private healthcare facilities and services, MHTC, with the support of Tourism Malaysia in Brunei, conducted a briefing session last week at Rizqun International Hotel, attended by tour and travel agents, airlines representatives, and the media.

Also present at the event were Tourism Malaysia Director in Brunei Haji Ibrahim Seddiqi bin Talib and representatives from the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam.

Malaysia has already seen an encouraging number of Bruneians visiting Malaysia for medical treatments, and with cultural and religious similarities between the two neighboring countries, Brunei could benefit from having world-class private healthcare available nearby. “Malaysia and Brunei have had strong diplomatic ties and have established fruitful collaborations across multiple industries, and now we are exploring potential partnerships in healthcare,” explained Yazmin. “With all that Malaysia Healthcare can offer, especially in terms of quality and price, we are confident that more can be done to attract Bruneians for treatment in Malaysia.”

They are also keen to foster partnerships with hospitals in Brunei for patient referrals to Malaysia, as well as identify potential partners and distribution channels for healthcare travel packages.

To further cement Malaysia’s position as the leading healthcare travel destination, MHTC recently launched the “Share My Love” campaign as a continuation of 2015’s “Malaysia Loves You” campaign, which spreads the message of love, unity and kindness, and invites all to experience Malaysia’s excellent healthcare coupled with famed Malaysian hospitality.
